RBI, Wary On Inflation, Expected To Keep Rates On Hold In August, the RBI made its only cut in 2017, of 25 basis points, and in October, it held. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) looks set to keep its policy rate on hold on Wednesday, after inflation accelerated to a seven-month high and stronger economic growth reduced the need for monetary stimulus. All but two of 54 analysts in a Reuters Poll said the repo rate would be left at 6.00 percent, the lowest since November 2010. In August, the RBI made its only cut in 2017, of 25 basis points, and in October, it held. On Wednesday, after a two-day meeting, the RBI is likely to reiterate concern about inflation, as the annual rate increased to 3.58 per cent in October, not far from the central bank's 4 percent target. Another source of RBI discomfort is that core inflation, which excludes food and energy prices, has remained stubbornly high at around 4.5 per cent. The central bank is likely to reiterate a "neutral" stance. Last week, there was welcome news of a recovery in annual economic growth in July-September to 6.3 percent, from 5.7 percent the previous quarter.

Gujarat elections: Narendra Modi congratulates Congress for their ‘Aurangzeb Raj’ PM Narendra Modi rakes up Rahul Gandhi’s elevation as Congress president, says even their leaders accept that the Congress is a family and not a party Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who on Monday addressed four rallies as part of the BJP’s campaign for Gujarat elections, attacked the Congress by comparing democracy in the grand old party with the times of Mughal dynasty rule. He said that Congress cannot tolerate or accept leaders from Gujarat and hence always displayed displeasure towards them and the people of the state. Speaking at a public rally in Dharampur in South Gujarat, Modi took a jibe at senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar’s statement in media about elevation of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as the next Congress president. “I want to congratulate Congress party for their Aurangzeb Raj,” Modi said referring to the Mughal emperor. Aiyar had earlier remarked that when Shahjahan or Aurangzeb took over, there were no elections held then hence it was natural for the heirs of Baadshah to get the throne. “Now even Congress leaders accept that the Congress is a family and not a party…let them have this kind of Aurangzeb rule,” Modi said. The PM’s remarks came on a day when Congress vice president Rahul Gandhifiled his nominations for election to the post of Congress president.
